Sydneysiders left begging for food

by Rev. Bill Crews 01 May 2023
I don’t need to tell you how expensive everyday goods and services have become! Groceries are up, rents are up and electricity is up. It’s tough at any time, but especially so at winter. Which is why a wave of Sydneysiders have turned to my Foundation for help.

The situation has become so acute that we are no longer an organisation that just cares for the homeless. Now we feed the hungry and the homeless.

Increasing numbers of Sydneysiders are facing desperate need. These are people who aren’t homeless, but they are nonetheless living in poverty. A poverty created, in part, by the cost of living crisis.

Nothing illustrates this point more than the booming demand for meals from our food van locations in western Sydney. In places like Bidwill, Minto and Liverpool even working people struggle to put food on the table. It’s not uncommon for our food vans to distribute 600 meals a day in some of these areas.

The need is dire. In fact some people come to us in tears begging for food.

Thankfully your support has enabled us to feed them. However, the need is likely to grow so I’d ask you to encourage your friends and family to support our work. If we don’t all come together to feed the hungry of Sydney, then who will?
