40 Years of Compassion in Action.
In 1986, after years of serving people experiencing hardship across Sydney, Bill Crews was appointed Minister to the Ashfield Uniting Church. Over the past 40 years, he has dedicated his life to ensuring that no one is turned away because of poverty, homelessness or crisis.
What began with providing meals and letting people sleep on the church pews has grown into a network of essential services supporting thousands of people every day. As the need continues to grow, your support will help us continue Bill's legacy and ensure we're there for the next person who needs us.
THE JOURNEY
From one community in Ashfield to a growing network of services across Sydney and beyond, our work has continued to grow alongside the needs of the people we serve.
These are just some of the moments that have shaped our journey.

Stories from our Community
For forty years, people from all walks of life have walked through our doors as guests, volunteers, supporters and staff. These are their stories of kindness, hope and the difference a caring community can make.
The program changed my life forever. I remember being so proud and confident when I stood up to give a speech at the end of the program. I knew I could read. Today, I’m working as an intern pharmacist, and reading is part of everything I do, from understanding recipes and street signs to navigating everyday life. I’m so grateful to Bill and the team for believing in me.

They have supported me from the very beginning. Without their support, I most likely wouldn’t be here today. I’m so grateful for everything they do and for the kindness they show to people who need it most.

From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with a warm smile and made to feel welcome and comfortable. The kindness and genuine care of the staff makes such a big difference to the people who come through the doors.

Rev Bill and his crew have been a saving grace for me many times, in many ways, when I’ve been really down and out. They do a lot of important work, and it makes a big difference in many people’s lives.

“It’s a very useful place when you have nowhere to eat or shower. The staff are awesome, courteous and helpful. Thank you for all the support I’ve received here. It’s very much appreciated.

THE WORK CONTINUES
The needs of our community continue to grow and change.
What started in Ashfield has grown into a network of services supporting people through hardship, homelessness, health challenges, isolation and crisis.
As we look to the next 40 years, your support will help us continue to grow, respond to need and be there for the next person who needs us.
