New thinking on homelessness from Sydney businesses

by Team Bill 10 Aug 2022
A business group is urging action on the plight of rough sleepers. Business Sydney has released a plan which includes housing them in undercover car parks and disused government buildings.
"Its important that we start thinking outside the box and looking at strategies that will have along term impact”.
Paul Nicolauo, the Executive Director of Business Sydney.

To that end he proposes a commissioner for homelessness. This commissioner would be tasked with coordinating best practices across government and agencies to reduce homelessness.

These are the sorts of initiatives that are sure to make a meaningful improvement in the lives of rough sleepers.

My team encounter homeless people living in makeshift accommodation all over Sydney. Indeed, it’s an increasingly common sight.

So identifying better was of helping rough sleepers off the streets is something I wholeheartedly support.
