The Rev. Bill Crews Foundation in partnership with TAFE NSW has developed the Transition 2 Work Program. It is a valuable vocational training program that offers participants the opportunity to gain an SIT10216 Certificate I in Hospitality, as well as practical on-the-job experience in a busy Ashfield cafe. Applications are now open for enrolement in the Transition 2 Work Program.

About the Transition 2 Work Program

The Transition 2 Work Program is tailored towards individuals wishing to obtain employment in the hospitality industry.

Benefits of the training Program

  • CSO4444 TAFE Statement in Vocational Support and Pathways
  • Gaining the necessary skills to work in the hospitality industry
  • On the job training in an operational commercial kitchen and a café under the supervision of a qualified chef
  • Assistance with job readiness, CV writing, interview skills
  • Assistance by qualified staff in seeking employment opportunities/pathways

Training components

Key components of the training include:

  • Safe work methods
  • Food hygiene/food handling
  • Preparing and serving expresso (barista)
  • Preparation and serving of simple dishes
  • General food preparation
  • Using kitchen equipment safely and effectively
  • Ability to use a POS system(Point of Sale software and hardware)
  • Food ordering (Warehouse management)
  • Basic menu planning
  • Employability skills

Additional benefits

In addition to the Hospitality components of this program, participants will also receive assistance in

  • Resume writing
  • Interview skills
  • Job seeking assistance/employment pathways


  • Participants aged 17 years and above
  • No longer at school
  • Living or working in NSW (or an Aboriginal person living in a specific defined area outside the NSW border)
  • Australian Citizen, or Australian Permanent Resident, or Humanitarian Visa Holder, or New Zealand citizen
  • A minimum of one form of Identification (Medicare, Drivers Licence, Passport, Birth Certificate, Concession Card)
  • An initial numeracy and literacy skills assessment will be required to be undertaken
  • Participants will require a Unique Student Identifier (USI)

Program timetable

Duration:12-week program (14th September – 11th December 2020)

Hours: Monday to Friday 10:00am – 3:00pm


162 Liverpool Road Ashfield (5 mins walk from Ashfield Station).
